چکیده
Otolaryngol Pol 2010; 64 (3): 136-146 SUMMARY This article reviewed the current state of the art in head and neck oncology. These include very important and stimulating new areas of interest including the marked acceptance of chemoradiation in favor of surgery in patients with cancer of the head and neck. The concept of HPV as a cause of cancer of the oropharynx is relatively new and very important in the epidemiology of these tumors. New modalities such as PET CT scanning and robotic surgery are discussed and appear to be very important in management of cancer of the head and neck. Endoscopic endonasal skull base surgery is another new high technology contribution to the fi eld of head and neck surgery as is the use of endoscopic assisted thyroid surgery. These and other new concepts are discussed in this manuscript.

A Review on the Efficacy of Chemotherapy in Locally Advanced Head and Neck Cancers
Background and Aims: Chemotherapy is utilized as a part of combined-modality programs to achieve organ preservation and improve survival in patients with locally advanced head and neck cancer. Combinedmodality protocols can be used in three forms: a) neoadjuvant induction chemotherapy before definitive surgery or radiotherapy; b) concomitant chemoradiotherapy; and c) sequential therapy consisti...
متن کاملLaryngocele after Subtotal Laryngectomy
Introduction: Laryngocele is an air-filled dilatation of the laryngeal saccule that extends upward within the false vocal folds. Different etiologies lead to laryngocele congenital malformation, weakness of the laryngeal tissues and increased intralaryngeal pressure. Laryngocele may be a secondary iatrogenic complication following subtotal laryngectomy. Case Report: We report the case of a 61...
متن کاملA shifting paradigm for patients with head and neck cancer: transoral robotic surgery (TORS).
The evolution of surgical oncologic technology has moved toward reducing patient morbidity without compromising oncologic resection. In head and neck surgery, organ-preserving techniques have paved the way for the development of transoral techniques that remove tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract without external incisions and potentially spare the patient adjuvant treatment. The introducti...

متن کاملIntra-arterial cetuximab for the treatment of recurrent unresectable head and neck squamous cell carcinoma†.
IMPORTANCE Management of recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is a common and challenging clinical problem in head and neck oncology. OBJECTIVE Here we present the first reported case of super-selective intra-arterial (SSIA) microcatheter based local delivery of cetuximab for head and neck cancer. This technical report describes the techniques used to deliver the SSIA dose of cetux...
